The go-to refractor, the SkyAlign technology, and the Star Pointer red dot LED makes finding and identifying stars a piece of cake. With the SkyAlign it is quick and easy to align the telescope. Once it is aligned you can search for more than 4000 objects in the sky, including stars, planets, and the moons of different planets.

Setting up your telescope is easy with the pre-assembled, height adjustable, stainless steel tripod. There are no tools required to assemble your telescope. There is also a convenient accessory tray attached to one leg of the tripod where you can safely place extra eye pieces, keeping them off the ground and out of your pockets.

The NexStar 60 SLT comes equipped with a hand-held control for the computer. During the first use you will be prompted to input the date, time, and location. The date and location are important because the earth changes position as the seasons change. The time is also relevant because the earth rotates, causing the stars to be in different positions in respect to the horizon. After alignment you can browse the different categories listed on the controller and decide what you want to view.

It comes with 2 eyepieces of different magnification, a CD-ROM Level 1 planetarium and star charting software, and has a 2 year warranty. The eyepieces offer different magnifications. One is a 25mm that is used primarily to view objects on the ground. The 9mm eyepiece is used to view objects in the night sky. Upon first use, it is easier to learn how to use the different magnifications during the day. Practice when it is easy to see, and when you feel comfortable with your focusing abilities take it out at night and start your night gazing. The CD is a windows based program that allows you to explore the Universe on your computer. It also shows objects that are not programmed into the NexStar 60 SLT database.
